Our Purpose

To eliminate those factors which produce and precipitate criminal behavior.
To restore common-sense moral values.
To provide educational tools and life skills to those in need so that they may rejoin society as responsible and contributing members.
To assist the criminal justice system to bring about reforms that will help accomplish these aims.

The Criminon program utilizes the research discoveries made by American author and humanitarian, L. Ron Hubbard, who had personally worked as a Special Officer for the Los Angeles Police Department in the late 1940's. Mr. Hubbard discovered that every criminal career began with the loss of self-respect. When a man could no longer trust himself, only then did he become a real threat to society.

As early as 1952, Mr. Hubbard began a criminal rehabilitation program with juvenile delinquents in London, England. Then, after two decades of research developments, the Criminon program was born.

Criminon is an extraordinary group of volunteers making inroads with the "revolving door syndrome" that currently afflicts our state and federal prison system–80% of the inmate population returning to prison again and again.

The volunteers making a difference are members of Criminon and their efforts are making the true rehabilitation of criminals a reality.

It may surprise some to learn that Criminon Western US is made up entirely of volunteers. In fact, since 1989, the number of volunteers in the Western U.S. has skyrocketed from only a handful to a legion almost 200 strong.

These volunteers are especially involved in the Criminon Correspondence Course programs which deliver the courses through the mail, to inmates all over the Western US, administering lessons on a weekly basis. Volunteers also help as instructors in Criminon programs delivered directly to the participants inside prisons, juvenile facilities and community centers.

On asking these volunteers why they continue to donate their time and energy, you would likely hear what one who has helped out for over four years said, "I think it's because Criminon gives you a real opportunity to make a difference. You can actually produce a positive change in the individual, and see it happen right in front of your eyes – the program is that effective. It also feels really good to be a part of something that is working to make the future brighter for everyone."
